Greetings!

This year has been a very fine summer. Lots of work in many places, with a number of changes coming online. We have seen a long summer season in Norway, France and Slovenia, with a number of high calibre local coaches coming on board to offer solutions as wider demand has grown. The likes of Nico Chassing, Zambezi legend sharing his skill set in France and Matic Terčelj on the Soča. Whilst the development of Rowan James across all desinations has been excellent.

In amoungst the new faces, are the core staff of Jakub Sedivy, Deb Pinniger and Simon Westgarth, spearheading the coaching ideas of Gene17Kayaking. Other new developments in house have come in the form of booking condition changes. These cover a more explicit demand for paddler backgrounds and abilities and a new Kayak Hire Agreement.

Away from office matters, we can be very excited with plans for some of the paddler’s we have help develop. Right now Eddy Mead and Andy Kettlewell are on the Grand Canyon of the Stikine, Tom Rainley soon heads to the Upper Indus and our very own Jakub Sedivy hits Tajikistan for the second descent of the Muksu River. Good luck to them all.

As the season is about change we soon focus on autumn courses in Devon and North Wales, and also manage to get a week in Slovenia at the end of September. Note all of our 2019 dates are now online too.

OPENING WEEKEND WITH GENE17KAYAKING THIS AUTUMN – 20/21 OCT 2018
We are planning to run a host of kayaking courses in Devon and North Wales this autumn and winter. These will included courses focusing on personal technique on differing rivers, as well as a bunch of British Canoeing awards too. Open to all paddlers, we’ll have the leading providers and coaches in Devon for an opportunity to learn great stuff on the water.

BRITISH CANOEING AWARD CHANGES JUST KEEP COMING
In January this year we saw a rebranding on the BC Coaching Awards MWE and AWE Coach to WW Kayak Coach, the Leadership Awards from 4 & 5 Star to White Water Kayak Leader. In January 2019, the new performance awards will roll out, simply called White Water Kayak, Progressive WW Kayak & Advanced WW Kayak.  These courses will sit along side our Fundamental Core, Progressive and Boof & Drops courses.

Note these new BC performance awards are no longer pre-requisites to leadership or coaching awards and are offered to aid development, especially for younger paddlers under 18 years old, whom had been unfortunately closed out by both the coach and leadership awards.  As ever we a keen to help with the next step in the progression of all paddlers and welcome more accessible awards for all.
