On the River flow – October 2013

Issue: # October 2013
Gene17’s River Flow Newsletter

Dear Paddler,

Every month, we bring the best of our news, events and developments in a single source, with Gene17kayaking’s on the River Flow.

This month has seen the Paddle Expo, Europe’s kayaking trade show. Where Palm Equipment showed off a number of new and updated products where Gene17’s Nick Horwood, Jake Holland and Simon Westgarth have all been involved in their testing and development. Check out the bright and clean looking Palm FXr PFD.

By late October our UK season kicks off down in Devon, and rain is in the forecast and our drysuits are at the ready!

A famed mantra “Practise makes Permanent”, but the practise of a questionable skills set often means a permanently poor performance. At Gene17kayaking, we have a wealth of knowledge and understanding rarely equalled in the coaching of whitewater kayaking. We spend a lot of time paddling with world class kayakers at the best destinaitons to stay focused on the progression of the sport. And we bring back cutting edge insight and concepts to our every day coaching courses.

The value of our kayaking courses is seldom matched and certainly rarely bettered. We’ll get you practising what works and works really well, so your paddling progression is permanently on the up.

We still have a number of places on Gene17kayaking’s clinics at the River’s Source, a white water gathering. You can book online to have a day with Simon Westgarth, Chris Eastabrook or Nick Horwood.  Also guided Upper Dart descents with Andrew Bonney.

We also have playboating clinics from World Champion James “Pringle” Bebbington and Katya Kulkova too.  Plus on Saturday evening we have our “Local Hero” Keynote speech, this year will be Nick Horwood, an Exeter boy who loves northern Norway. Book online at the River’s Source 2013

Our closed course rate, of £250 a day for a Gene17kayaking coach for up to 4 white water paddlers is great value for money, as well as great coaching too. Contact Us for further information and booking.

We always run a full programme of white water courses for individuals too, and through the autumn into early winter, and for 2013/14 there is no exception. Paddlers can of course book on individually, via our Course Webpage.

Gene17kayaking offers the both the BCU Moderate Water Endorsement and BCU Advanced Water Endorsement in Devon this autumn & winter. We bring our core understanding of white water kayaking to coach education, provide insight into cut edge river running technique and first rate comprehension of the coaching process. If a weekend is not enough why not join us for our week long White Water Coach programme in Slovenia next spring & in Norway next summer, our new Advanced White Water Coach training course.

Just as we are all at the darkest point of the northern Winter, Jakub Sedivy will lead a 2 week adventure in December 2013 to Chile. Shorts, short sleeves and steep pool drop creeks await paddlers heading to Latin America and Chile.

Pucon will be our base to hit numerous world class runs like the Rio Palguin and Rio Fuy. See Chilean Adventure for details and book now!

The season is over and Jakub is gone, last year it was Langu Khola in Nepal and this year it’s to Borneo. Jakub joins this 3 month rolling expedition where the team is refreshed throughout, but the mission to explore this rarely visited part of the world for white water is maintained.

See Kayak Borneo for the trip reports so far. The images and stories are so good, these guys have confirmed as the headline act at this year’s Gene17 Adventure Paddlers Weekend

For this autumn, bookings are very strong for advanced white water paddlers, and we have lots of availability for intermediates & aspiring white water kayakers on BCU 4 Star Training and BCU Basic WWS&R.

Soon Simon will start to build a quick fire analysis from a range of videos shot from this summer’s action, check out our News for updates and our Facebook Page.

If you do not see something for yourself above, why not drop us a line with a request.

Best Regards,
Simon Westgarth
